Red Sox Place Lowe on Paternity List, Refsnyder Returns Today

BREAKING: The Boston Red Sox have placed first baseman Nathaniel Lowe on the paternity list as of August 31, 2023, and activated outfielder Rob Refsnyder from the 10-day injured list. This urgent roster move comes just before the Red Sox face the Baltimore Orioles today.

Lowe, who joined the Red Sox on August 18 after being released by the Washington Nationals, has made a significant impact. He boasts a batting average of .296 with one home run and seven RBIs in just nine games since his arrival, quickly securing his place as Boston’s everyday first baseman.

In contrast, Refsnyder returns after missing 12 games due to a left oblique strain. The veteran outfielder has participated in 54 games this season, hitting .272 with six home runs and 22 RBIs. His presence is expected to bolster the lineup against tough left-handed pitchers.

“We needed it,” said manager Alex Cora. “We struggled against lefties lately… He puts them in a spot where they have to make decisions later in the game or early in the game.”

Additionally, the Red Sox activated right-hander Justin Slaten from the 60-day injured list. Slaten, who has not pitched for Boston since May 28 due to shoulder inflammation, recorded a 3.47 ERA in 24 games prior to his injury. Lefty Jovani Moran, who has a 6.75 ERA this season, has been optioned to Triple-A Worcester following a brief stint with the team.

As the Red Sox prepare to take on the Orioles today, fans are eager to see how these changes will impact their playoff aspirations. With the season reaching its critical final month, every game counts, making these roster adjustments vital for the team’s success.

Stay tuned for more updates on player performances and implications for the Red Sox as they continue their pursuit of the postseason.
