URGENT UPDATE: Oswego East High School’s volleyball star, Tori Vlcek, made an explosive debut as a sophomore, securing a key role in her team’s season opener against Waubonsie Valley on August 27, 2025. Vlcek showcased her talent by scoring all four of her kills in the first game, propelling the Wolves to a decisive 25-15, 25-23 victory.
Coach Dina Beamon had her sights set on Vlcek long before the match, recognizing her potential during last season. “I was looking, I was watching and I was like, ‘OK, I think that could be a little piece that we’re missing to make us better,’” Beamon stated. With a veteran roster returning, the decision to include Vlcek proved fruitful immediately.
The Wolves surged to a commanding lead, thanks in part to Mia Stanley, who served an impressive eight aces. The team’s synergy was evident as they maintained control throughout the match. “I’m really excited to go up to varsity this year. It’s a great group of girls,” Vlcek shared after the game, highlighting her enthusiasm and readiness to integrate into the starting lineup.
As the only underclassman on a squad that includes seven returning varsity players, Vlcek’s performance is a promising sign for the team’s future. Her contributions didn’t go unnoticed, as Stanley praised her positive attitude and work ethic. “She always comes in with a great attitude, works super hard,” Stanley noted.
Vlcek’s journey to varsity began last season when she was called up near the end, and her aspirations have now materialized. “I used to feel pressure, but I feel like it just mellows out when you fit with the team,” she explained. The emotional impact of her success was palpable, showcasing the importance of teamwork and support among players.
The match was characterized by quick rallies and strategic plays, with Oswego East building an early lead of 14-8. Despite a brief stall in momentum during the second game, the Wolves maintained composure, ultimately securing the sweep. Beamon expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “We have been trying to manifest working hard for what we want. I told them to just go get it and they did.”
With her remarkable debut, Vlcek’s confidence and experience from high-level teams promise to bolster the Wolves’ campaign this season. Her ability to handle pressure was evident, as Beamon confirmed, “She’s shown in practice that she’s not intimidated. She’s hungry. I knew she would be an asset to our program.”
As the season unfolds, all eyes will be on Tori Vlcek and the Oswego East Wolves as they strive for continued success on the court. This thrilling opener marks just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting season for the team and its fans.
