Trump Targets ABC and NBC, Calls Them ‘Threat to Democracy’

President Donald Trump has publicly criticized ABC and NBC, labeling them as “biased and untruthful” in their coverage of his presidency. The remarks, made on his social media platform, have sparked discussions about the relationship between media outlets and political figures. Trump claimed both networks pose a “threat to democracy,” suggesting they should have their broadcast licenses revoked.

In a series of posts on August 24, 2025, Trump asserted that despite what he described as overwhelming support, with some polls indicating approval ratings in the 60s and 70s, ABC and NBC continue to portray him negatively. He stated, “Despite a very high popularity and, according to many, among the greatest 8 months in Presidential History, ABC & NBC FAKE NEWS… give me 97% BAD STORIES.”

Trump further argued that the networks should pay substantial fees for using public airwaves, emphasizing that “crooked journalism should not be rewarded.” He expressed a desire for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to take action against the networks, calling for their licenses to be revoked.

The president’s comments came shortly after he reached a $16 million settlement with CBS regarding a contentious interview on the network’s “60 Minutes” program featuring then-Vice President Kamala Harris. Following this, the FCC approved a significant merger involving CBS’s parent company, Paramount, and Skydance, valued at $8 billion.

Critics have raised concerns that Trump’s statements reflect an attempt to influence media operations using his authority. During a television appearance on ABC’s “This Week,” former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie condemned Trump’s actions, particularly in light of recent FBI raids related to his former national security advisor.

The ongoing tension between Trump and major media outlets illustrates a broader struggle over press freedom and the role of journalism in a democratic society. As debates continue over media accountability and political discourse, Trump’s remarks have reignited questions about the impact of media on public perception and political power.

This latest escalation in Trump’s media feud highlights the complexities of the relationship between political leaders and the press, emphasizing the need for critical examination of both coverage and the responses from those in power.
