SonicWall has appointed Michael Crean to lead its newly established managed security services division. This move marks a significant step in the company’s evolution towards becoming a comprehensive cybersecurity provider. Crean, who previously founded the managed security service provider Solutions Granted, was brought on board following its acquisition by SonicWall in late 2023.
In his new role, Crean will oversee a division dedicated to both co-managed and fully managed cybersecurity solutions. This initiative is part of SonicWall’s strategy to enhance its managed services offerings and compete with established vendors such as Cisco, Barracuda, and WatchGuard.
SonicWall has introduced a licensing bundle designed to simplify the management of cybersecurity services. The company emphasizes that this approach aims to “remove the burden of firewall administration,” allowing organizations to focus on core operations while ensuring robust security measures.
Crean’s extensive experience in the managed security sector aligns with SonicWall’s goals as it expands its service portfolio. He previously served as Senior Vice President for managed security services at Solutions Granted, where he developed a strong understanding of the industry’s demands and challenges.
The firm is also collaborating with other managed service providers, including Napa Valley Networks, which has adopted SonicWall’s SonicSentry offering to bolster its security operations. This partnership underscores SonicWall’s commitment to providing effective solutions that meet the needs of its partners.
In a statement regarding his new position, Crean expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “This is the new SonicWall: responsive, partner-led, and ready to deliver what MSPs need to succeed. Managed security services aren’t just part of our future; they’re a core layer of every security solution we sell.”
As the cybersecurity landscape continues to evolve, SonicWall’s strategic enhancements under Crean’s leadership aim to position the company as a key player in the managed security services market, reflecting a broader trend of integration and specialization within the industry.
