Orioles Re-sign Zach Eflin to Urgent $10M Deal for 2026

UPDATE: The Baltimore Orioles have just re-signed right-hander Zach Eflin to a one-year contract worth $10 million, solidifying their roster as they aim to rebound from a disappointing 2025 season. This urgent deal, confirmed by ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez, includes a mutual option for the 2027 season and a $500,000 bonus if Eflin is traded.

At 31 years old, Eflin faced a challenging 2025 season, plagued by injuries that led him to the injured list on three separate occasions due to lat and back issues. Despite these hurdles, he recorded a 5.93 ERA across 14 starts, significantly higher than the impressive 2.60 ERA he posted in nine games after being acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in 2024.

As the Orioles prepare for the upcoming season, Eflin is likely to take a back-end spot in the rotation alongside a healthy Trevor Rogers, who recently had a breakout campaign. With Kyle Bradish also returning to fitness and Shane Baz acquired from the Rays, the Orioles are looking to improve a rotation that ranked 24th in Major League Baseball in ERA last season.

This move comes as part of Mike Elias, the Orioles’ president of baseball operations, focus on enhancing the team following a 75-win finish last year, placing them at the bottom of a competitive American League East. Eflin’s return is seen as crucial to this effort.

In addition to re-signing Eflin, the Orioles have been active this winter, having secured a closer by signing right-hander Ryan Helsley to a two-year, $28 million contract, trading right-hander Grayson Rodriguez for outfielder Taylor Ward, and signing first baseman Pete Alonso to a staggering five-year, $155 million deal.

The Orioles are not done yet; they are still exploring options to enhance their pitching depth before the winter concludes. Fans eagerly await further developments as the team seeks to reclaim its competitive edge in the league.

This urgent re-signing of Eflin signifies Baltimore’s commitment to strengthening its roster and restoring its position in the postseason race. Expect more updates as the offseason progresses and the Orioles continue to make moves aimed at turning around their fortunes.
