URGENT UPDATE: Jemison High School’s boys’ basketball team achieved a remarkable victory over Isabella High School with a score of 67-24 in a game that served as a heartfelt send-off for their senior players. The game took place earlier today, showcasing Jemison’s strong performance as they continue to build momentum heading into the postseason.
Head coach James Nabors expressed pride in his team’s performance, stating, “I feel good, our team feels like it’s peaking. All the guys have been sharing the ball and playing good team ball; we played excellent defense.” This win not only honors the seniors but sets the stage for Jemison’s aspirations to claim the area championship.
The seniors—Joe Castaing, C.J. Kidd, Graden Mims, Trinton Rudolph, and Darion Slaughter—were celebrated throughout the game. Nabors highlighted their contributions over the past three years, noting, “They’ve won two JV championships, and I want this group to leave with the area championship.”
The game started strong for Jemison, with Slaughter kicking off the scoring with an opening 3-pointer. The Panthers surged ahead with an impressive 20-0 run in the first quarter. Kidd and Rudolph led the charge, scoring vital points that established Jemison’s dominance. By halftime, Jemison held a commanding lead, scoring 12 points in the second quarter and 19 points in the third.
Despite a spirited effort from Isabella, which managed to score 11 points in both the second and third quarters, they struggled to keep pace. In the final quarter, Jemison outscored Isabella 20-2, sealing the game with a lopsided victory.
Isabella’s head coach Tate Leonard acknowledged the gap in performance, saying, “I wasn’t too impressed, but it starts with me. We are a whole lot better than what the score says tonight, but it just didn’t show tonight.” Isabella’s leading scorer, Brendyn Kirkland, managed to put up 9 points, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide.
With this victory, Jemison now stands in third place in the 5A Area 5 region according to MaxPreps. The team is poised to continue their strong performance as they aim for the area championship title.
The energy and emotion of the night highlighted not only the skills of the players but the importance of teamwork and dedication. As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Jemison to see if they can capitalize on this momentum and fulfill their championship aspirations.
