Agnes Margaret (Hedlund) Urdanick passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026, after a courageous 16-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was 76 years old. Agnes was born on March 29, 1949, in Brooklyn, NY, to Anna and Henry Hedlund. Her life was marked by dedication to family and community, leaving a profound impact on those around her.
After completing her education at Our Lady of Perpetual Help High School in 1966, Agnes attended Secretarial School in Manhattan. She enjoyed a successful career as an Executive Secretary to the President of a prominent Real Estate Investment Banking firm in the United States. Following the birth of her children, Agnes chose to become a stay-at-home mother.
In 1976, Agnes and her family relocated from New York City to South Windsor, CT. Three years later, she began a new chapter as a Nursery School Teacher, eventually becoming the Director of Creative Nursery School. Over the span of 21 years, Agnes became a cherished figure in the lives of countless children in South Windsor, nurturing their growth and development.
Agnes found joy in various activities outside of her professional life. She was an enthusiastic bowler during the winter months and a dedicated golfer in the summer as a member of Ellington Ridge Country Club. Additionally, she loved reading and crocheting, which allowed her to express her creativity.
Agnes’s family remembered her as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ronald Urdanick; her son, James Urdanick, and his wife, Magin, of Arlington, VA; her daughter, Kathleen, and her husband, Anthony LeBlanc, of Tolland, CT; and three granddaughters, Danielle, Hannah, and Allison. She also leaves behind her brother, Henry Hedlund, and his wife, Natalie, her sister-in-law, Carol Burke, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In a statement, the family expressed deep gratitude to the Certified Nursing Assistants, nurses, and staff at the Village at Buckland Court in South Windsor, who provided exceptional care for Agnes during her final years.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home on January 27, 2026, from 16:00 to 19:00. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Margaret Mary Church on January 28, 2026, at 10:00, followed by entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Glastonbury.
