BREAKING: Richard (Dick) Johnson, a cherished member of the Centralia community, has passed away at the age of 92. He took his last breaths peacefully on August 6, 2025, at Providence Hospital in Centralia, Washington, leaving behind a legacy of love for nature and family.
Richard was born on July 21, 1933, in Tacoma, Washington. He shared a deep bond with his wife, Bobbie Belcher, whom he married in 2003 after being together for over 15 years. Together, they nurtured their beloved tree farm in Randle, WA, where they spent countless hours planting and caring for the land they adored.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie; his son, Timothy Johnson of Onalaska, WA; and his stepdaughter, Jennifer Mullins from Chehalis, WA. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Kayla of San Luis Obispo, CA, and Kylea Johnson of Olympia, WA.
Johnson’s career with the U.S. Forest Service began in 1966 and lasted until his retirement in 1994. His passion for the outdoors was evident in his storytelling about his experiences in the woods, which he cherished until the very end. His love for nature was complemented by his military service; he proudly served two years in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany.
Known as a true outdoorsman, Dick was not only an avid hunter but also a skilled climber. He enjoyed elk hunting trips and made memories climbing iconic mountains such as Mt. Rainier and Mt. St. Helens. His adventurous spirit was complemented by a tireless work ethic—he worked weekends at White Pass Ski Resort for 20 winters to ensure his children could ski for free, all while building his own home and managing his tree farm.
A celebration of life is scheduled for September 20, 2025, at their tree farm on Peters Road in Randle, WA, starting at noon. Friends and family are invited to share memories and honor a man whose spirit and dedication left a profound impact on those around him.
Johnson’s passing marks a significant loss for the local community, where his contributions to forestry and his love for nature inspired many. His adventurous nature and commitment to family will not be forgotten, and his legacy will continue to thrive in the hearts of those who knew him.
