NFL Trainer Defends Deebo Samuel Amid Weight Controversy

BREAKING: Washington Commanders wide receiver Deebo Samuel is under fire for his conditioning as he prepares for his first season with the team. Amid viral clips showcasing his offseason workouts, concerns have surfaced regarding his physical appearance, with many fans and analysts labeling him as “overweight.”

The scrutiny escalated during recent organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp sessions, where Samuel’s performance drew mixed reactions. In response to the growing criticism, his trainer, Nick Hill, stepped in to set the record straight on the wideout’s preparation for the 2025 NFL season.

During a revealing appearance on NFL insider John Keim’s podcast, Hill emphasized the normal fluctuations in player conditioning during the offseason. “Most of my guys, they’re a little bit bigger in those early offseason phases,” he explained, noting that Samuel’s training regimen has not been visible to the media.

Hill confirmed that Samuel is pushing himself through a rigorous schedule, stating, “We’re going at 6:00 AM every day right now. He has a speed and power lift session with me in the morning, an afternoon cardio session, and then he runs routes later in the evening. So he’s going two, three sessions a day.”

The trainer’s remarks indicate that Samuel, who is 31 years old and last year faced difficulties with the San Francisco 49ers, is more than ready to make a statement with the Commanders. Hill’s confidence suggests that Samuel is poised for a significant comeback alongside talented teammates like Terry McLaurin and rising star Jayden Daniels.

As the Commanders gear up for training camp, set to begin on July 22, 2025, Samuel’s commitment to fitness may be key to the team’s championship aspirations. Fans are eager to see how the new addition will impact the Commanders’ offensive strategy, making this a crucial time for both the player and the organization.
