UPDATE: In a thrilling basketball showdown, Kylie Lamson achieved a historic milestone by scoring her 1,000th career point for Cheverus High School, leading her team to a 48-44 victory over Gorham on Tuesday. Lamson entered the game needing just 16 points to reach this remarkable achievement and sealed the milestone with a crucial basket in the final two minutes.
Cheverus, currently undefeated at 9-0, showcased their dominance as the top-ranked team in the Varsity Maine poll. Lamson’s stellar performance included a total of 17 points, while teammate Kristin King contributed 11 points. Despite a strong effort from Gorham, who clawed back from a 12-point halftime deficit, they fell short, bringing their record to 5-4. Gorham’s Madison Milligan led her team with 12 points, including four 3-pointers.
In other notable games, Marshwood defeated Portland 44-34, with Isabelle Tice scoring 21 points, helping the Hawks improve to 5-2. Meanwhile, Oak Hill triumphed over Waynflete 51-31, thanks to Jillian Smith’s 12 points, pushing their record to 6-2.
On the boys’ side, Biddeford secured a 49-34 win against Noble, driven by Ernie Dore’s impressive 21 points. Lisbon also made headlines by overcoming a 12-point halftime deficit to defeat Sacopee Valley 65-64, with Owen Hurd scoring 20 points in a thrilling second-half comeback.
In girls’ hockey, the Biddeford Co-op clinched a dramatic 3-2 overtime victory over Brunswick, capped off by Sophia Auger’s buzzer-beater with just three seconds remaining. This win elevates Biddeford/Thornton Academy/Kennebunk/Wells to an 8-4 record.
