Former Summit High School baseball standout Slater de Brun has been traded from the Baltimore Orioles to the Tampa Bay Rays in a significant inter-division deal. The announcement came on December 19, 2025, as reported by ESPN. De Brun, selected as the 37th overall pick in the MLB draft earlier this year, was part of a package that included catcher Caden Bodine, pitcher Michael Forret, and outfielder Austin Overn. In return, the Orioles acquired right-handed pitcher Shane Baz.
This trade marks a pivotal moment in de Brun’s early career. The talented outfielder played a crucial role in leading Summit to the Class 5A state title in the previous spring. His impressive high school statistics included a batting average of .370, with 26 RBIs, 35 runs scored, and 22 stolen bases. His performance earned him the title of Intermountain Conference Player of the Year and a spot on the Class 5A first-team all-state roster.
De Brun’s journey to the MLB began when he chose to sign with the Orioles instead of attending Vanderbilt University, where he had committed to play college baseball. This decision positioned him as the highest-drafted baseball player from Central Oregon since Jacoby Ellsbury, who was picked by the Boston Red Sox in 2005.
Last summer, de Brun showcased his skills on the international stage as a member of the USA Baseball National Team. His ability to perform under pressure and contribute significantly to his team’s success has drawn attention from scouts and analysts alike.
As de Brun transitions to the Rays, expectations will undoubtedly be high. His solid performance in high school and potential for growth makes him a valuable asset in Tampa Bay’s roster. The Rays will be looking to leverage his talent as they continue to compete in the highly competitive American League East.
His trade to Tampa Bay not only reflects his individual promise but also highlights the ongoing strategy of both teams to build for future success. With the upcoming MLB season on the horizon, fans will be eager to see how de Brun adapts to this new chapter in his professional career.
