Patricia M. Mercado, a beloved member of the Mountain Top community, passed away on September 17, 2025, at the age of 77. Born in the Bronx, New York, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Nancy Flynn Mercado. Patricia dedicated a significant portion of her career to serving as an administrator at the VA Hospital, where she was known for her commitment and compassion.
After retiring from the hospital, Mercado continued to engage with her community through her work at JC Penney in the Wyoming Valley Mall. She was well-regarded for her friendly demeanor and willingness to help others, making her a cherished figure among her colleagues and customers.
Family and Community Remembered
Patricia’s life was enriched by her relationships with family and friends. She enjoyed spending her leisure time with loved ones and had a fondness for occasional trips to the casino. She leaves behind her companion, Kay Klushin, as well as her sister, Carole Danastorg, and brother-in-law, Tony Danastorg. Patricia’s brother, James Mercado, also survives her. In addition to her immediate family, she is remembered by her niece and nephew, who will carry her memory forward.
In a heartfelt tribute, family members expressed their gratitude for the time they shared with Patricia, emphasizing her caring nature and the joy she brought into their lives.
Funeral Arrangements and Memorial Contributions
A funeral service will be held on September 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Desiderio-Lehman Funeral and Cremation home located at 436 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects starting at 10:00 a.m., leading up to the service. Following the ceremony, a funeral luncheon will take place at Kings Restaurant in Mountain Top.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor’s choice or to any animal rescue organization. This gesture reflects Patricia’s love for animals and her desire to help those in need.
Patricia M. Mercado’s legacy will endure in the hearts of those who knew her, and her contributions to the community will not be forgotten.
