Lake County Hosts Summer Events to Prepare for Back-to-School Season

As summer draws to a close, communities in Lake County, Florida, are gearing up for back-to-school events aimed at supporting families and students. A variety of activities are scheduled from July 19 to 30, offering resources such as school supplies, community engagement, and educational opportunities.

Back-to-School Events Across Lake County

LakeEustis Lakeside Dental, located at 15 W. Atwater Ave., will host a free drive-through backpack giveaway on July 22 starting at 14:30. The event will distribute backpacks filled with essential school supplies on a first-come, first-served basis, and students must be present in the vehicle to receive a backpack. The Fruitland Park Library will also get in on the action with its “Pete the Cat Back to School Bash” on July 25 from 09:00 to 11:00. This event promises free school supplies, a bounce house, hot dogs, ice cream, and even a fire truck. Supplies will be available while they last, and the event is free and open to the public. First United Methodist Church of Mount Dora will hold a Back to School Bash from 11:00 to 13:00 on July 26. Attendees can enjoy lunch, haircuts, carnival games, and door prizes. Another notable event is the Last Call Mount Dora, an end-of-summer celebration scheduled for July 26 from 17:00 to 21:15 at Sunset Park, 230 W. Fourth Ave. This year, the event will feature a live performance by Power of Love, a tribute band to Huey Lewis & The News, coinciding with the 40th Anniversary of the film “Back to the Future.” Attendees are encouraged to bring school supplies to support local public schools, with donations benefiting students in need. Community United Methodist Church of Fruitland Park will host a Christmas in July celebration on July 19 from 11:00 to 14:00. Families are invited to enjoy crafts, games, and lunch, along with photo opportunities with Santa Claus. The event is free for families with children up to the sixth grade.

A monthly support group for individuals with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers will convene at Lake Port Square, 821 Lake Port Blvd., Leesburg, on July 23 from 11:00 to 12:00. Participants will share experiences and discuss related memory and cognition issues. The Lady Lake Public Library is currently running its third annual School Supplies for Fines drive, which allows patrons to donate school supplies in exchange for waiving overdue material fees until July 31. Donations are welcome at the library, located at 225 W. Guava St., and all contributions will support local students.

Additionally, the Orlando Health National Training Center will conduct junior lifeguard camps from July 21-23 and July 28-30 for youths aged 11 to 15. The sessions will cover vital skills such as water safety, CPR, and rescue techniques. Each camp costs $100 and participants must attend all three dates of their chosen session to complete the course.

Upcoming Residential Developments in Leesburg

In real estate news, Winter Park-based developer Henin Group has acquired a new residential project named Treasure Trove, which consists of 110 lots. Further, permits are being finalized for an additional 85 lots at Silver Lake Woods, both located in Leesburg. Treasure Trove, a 55-acre parcel west of County Road 44, is expected to begin infrastructure and site development by the fourth quarter of this year.

Homes in Silver Lake Woods are projected to range from 1,500 to 2,544 square feet, featuring three to five bedrooms and priced from the mid-$300,000s. Construction is planned to commence in early 2026. Henin Group is also considering these projects for potential build-to-rent options.

For those interested in prenatal education, Orlando Health South Lake Hospital offers a variety of classes including childbirth preparation, breastfeeding, and newborn care.
