In an interview with Variety, Matt Duffer discussed the origins of this cave. “In The First Shadow, there’s a reference to a cave in Nevada near an army base where a young Henry Creel first encountered something connected to the Upside Down. Is that the same cave?” Duffer confirmed, “Yeah. When we were working on the play with Kate Trefry, we had Henry’s backstory worked out.”
The Duffer Brothers faced challenges while developing the play, trying to balance how much information to reveal without spoiling future seasons of the show. “We have to wait to reveal that in the show,” Matt Duffer emphasized. He mentioned that fans will notice more ties as the series progresses, especially in the final episodes.
