Urgent Weather Alert: Portland Faces Frost Tonight, Rain Thursday

UPDATE: Portland is bracing for a cool night as temperatures drop sharply after a high of 64 degrees this afternoon. A frost advisory is in effect for rural areas through early Thursday morning, with patchy frost expected.

As the night progresses, light rain and drizzle are possible on Thursday, particularly near the coast. Forecasters from the National Weather Service warn that a weak frontal system will bring increasing clouds and a slight chance of precipitation.

Residents should prepare for temperatures to plummet overnight, with conditions that could lead to hazardous travel in the early hours. Northwest winds will remain light, around 5 to 10 mph, but the chill will be felt across the region.

Looking ahead, the weekend promises a significant weather shift. A stronger storm system is expected to move into the area late Saturday and continue into Sunday. Forecasters predict widespread rain, with potential rainfall amounts ranging from 0.2 to 1.5 inches across the region. Coastal areas could be hit hardest, with totals reaching up to 3.5 inches.

This unsettled weather pattern is projected to last into early next week, bringing continued chances for rain and potentially hazardous marine conditions. Boaters and coastal visitors are urged to exercise caution, particularly due to expected large swells and sneaker waves.
