BREAKING: Troy University has just received final approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to launch its groundbreaking Doctor of Chiropractic program. This pivotal milestone positions Troy University as a leader in healthcare education, set to welcome its first cohort of students in Fall 2027.
Dr. Mary Anne Templeton, Associate Provost for Academic Affairs, stated,
“Receiving final SACSCOC approval is a defining moment for Troy University and for the future of healthcare education in our region.”
This program will make Troy the second public institution in the United States to offer this specific degree, and the first in the southern region, marking a historic achievement in expanding accessible chiropractic education.
The new Doctor of Chiropractic program will be located at Troy University’s Dothan campus, strategically chosen for its central location within the Wiregrass region, which serves Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. This decision aims to leverage the campus’s existing successful health and sciences programs while addressing the growing demand for qualified chiropractors in the Southeast.
Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr. emphasized the importance of this initiative, saying,
“The program not only breaks new ground but also addresses critical needs by training the next generation of chiropractors dedicated to serving their communities.”
The program is designed to provide affordable, high-quality education, ensuring students are equipped with the skills necessary to meet the healthcare needs of their communities immediately upon graduation.
Dr. Kerry Palmer, Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs & Provost, highlighted Troy’s leadership role in this expansion. “Becoming the first public university in the South to offer a Doctor of Chiropractic program positions Troy University as a leader in expanding access to this vital profession,” he stated.
The program aims to create a pathway for students that not only meets the educational standards but also addresses the pressing workforce needs across Alabama and the Southeast. Dr. LaGary Carter, Dean of the College of Health Sciences, added,
“Students will benefit from hands-on, interprofessional training experiences that prepare them to enter practice ready to make an immediate impact in the communities that need them most.”
As healthcare demands grow, this new program is timely and essential, promising to foster a new generation of chiropractors who can significantly contribute to local and regional health services. More information about the Doctor of Chiropractic program is available on Troy University’s official program page, with updates expected as the launch date approaches.
