Phillies’ Turner Records 5 Hits, Schwarber Drives in 5 in 11-2 Sweep

PHILADELPHIA — Urgent update: Trea Turner exploded with a remarkable five-hit performance, while Kyle Schwarber’s powerhouse display fueled the Philadelphia Phillies to a commanding 11-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners, completing a stunning three-game sweep on July 12, 2023. This impressive win underscores the Phillies’ dominance, highlighted by Turner’s historic achievements.

Turner, who kicked off the game with a leadoff triple, accumulated four singles, marking his fourth career game with five hits and his first as a member of the Phillies. Notably, he is the first player in the majors this season to record five hits and two stolen bases in a game, a feat last accomplished by Shohei Ohtani on September 19, 2024. His two stolen bases on Wednesday made him the first Phillies player to achieve this since Jimmy Rollins in 2008.

Schwarber, with a National League-leading 45 home runs, contributed significantly to the victory, driving in five runs with a homer, an RBI double, a run-scoring single, and a sacrifice fly. His impressive performance pushes his season total to a career-high 110 RBIs. Schwarber is now just 14 home runs shy of Babe Ruth‘s record for the second-most home runs in a player’s first four seasons with a team, currently holding 176 homers with the Phillies.

Joining the offensive surge, Max Kepler added three hits, including a home run, while Bryson Stott recorded three hits and two RBIs, further solidifying the Phillies’ offensive prowess. Philadelphia has now won four consecutive games, showcasing their formidable lineup and pitching strength.

The pitching staff was equally impressive, with Jesus Luzardo (12-6) striking out 12 batters over six innings, allowing just one run on three hits. The game also marked the return of reliever Jose Alvarado, who made his first appearance since an 80-game suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy. He received a warm ovation from fans and pitched a flawless eighth inning, striking out major league home run leader Cal Raleigh, who went 0-for-4 on the day.

With this sweep, the Phillies scored a staggering 29 runs and amassed 48 hits against the Mariners, their highest total in a three-game series since July 2-4, 1999. The team’s pitching staff recorded 46 strikeouts, the most the Phillies have achieved in a series of exactly three games since 1900.

What’s next? The Phillies will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for their upcoming series, aiming to continue their winning streak and maintain their position as a contender in the league. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as Turner and Schwarber continue to lead the charge for Philadelphia.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as the Phillies push for postseason success.
