URGENT UPDATE: A new musical titled Dypsy!, inspired by the life of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, is set to debut on London’s West End in 2026. This highly anticipated production is currently in the works, promising a bold exploration of society’s fascination with true crime.
Parkinson Phillips Productions confirmed that work commenced on Dypsy! in 2024, with lyrics penned by Samuel Parkinson-Philips and music composed by Rachel Blaquière. The musical aims to combine high-energy comedy with sharp satire, tackling the serious themes of psychological manipulation and medical abuse that are central to Blanchard’s story.
Gypsy Rose gained notoriety after orchestrating the murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, in 2016, when she was just 17 years old. Her boyfriend, Nicolas Godejohn, infamously entered their home in Springfield, Missouri, and fatally stabbed Dee Dee while she slept, a crime that shocked the nation and sparked widespread media coverage.
Described as both a parody and a commentary on the obsession with true crime, Dypsy! is expected to follow in the footsteps of popular parody musicals like Titanique and Oh, Mary!. The production promises to deliver a unique blend of theatrical absurdity while shedding light on the grim realities of Gypsy Rose’s upbringing, which included a childhood plagued by fabricated illnesses due to her mother’s alleged Munchausen syndrome by proxy.
Writer and producer Parkinson-Philips emphasized the importance of addressing these sensitive topics through humor and theatrical storytelling. “The story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard continues to spark global conversation,” he stated. “While Dypsy! is a parody, it will open the door to greater understanding of issues often left unspoken.”
Gypsy Rose Blanchard, now 34 years old, has turned her life around since her release from prison. She divorced her husband, Ryan Scott Anderson, and welcomed a daughter named Aurora last year, whom she shares with her boyfriend, Ken Urker.
As excitement builds for the 2026 premiere, the production team is dedicated to creating a performance that resonates with audiences, blending entertainment with crucial discussions about mental health and societal norms. “If audiences leave both laughing and reflecting, then we’ve achieved exactly what we set out to do,” Parkinson-Philips added.
Stay tuned for further updates on this groundbreaking musical that promises to captivate and challenge perceptions surrounding one of the most sensational true crime stories of our time.
