Samsung has announced a strategic partnership with Perplexity AI to integrate the AI-powered answer engine into its 2025 lineup of smart TVs. This collaboration aims to enhance user experience by providing access to the Perplexity TV app, which will work alongside Samsung’s existing voice assistant, Bixby, and Microsoft Copilot, both of which were introduced in August 2023.
Innovative Features of the Perplexity TV App
The Perplexity TV app is designed to assist users in multiple ways, including finding shows to watch, answering general inquiries, planning trips, and managing everyday tasks. According to a press release from Samsung, the app promises a visually engaging experience that surpasses traditional text responses. When users pose a question, results will be presented in high-quality, glanceable cards specifically tailored for Samsung televisions.
Accessing the Perplexity AI capabilities will be straightforward. Users can launch the app from the Tizen Apps bar or simply press the AI button located on the TV remote. In addition to the new 2025 models, the app is expected to be available on Samsung’s 2023 and 2024 smart TVs through an operating system upgrade later this year.
Competitive Landscape in AI Integration
Ryan Foutty, Vice President of Business at Perplexity, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “Samsung is the number one television brand in the world, and we are excited to bring the functionality that Perplexity users know and trust to Samsung’s television screens and device owners around the world.”
This collaboration places Perplexity AI in a competitive position, as it joins established players like Google and Amazon. Google is set to introduce its Gemini AI on Google TV, while Amazon’s next-generation Alexa+ assistant already supports several Fire TV devices currently available in the market.
The integration of AI technology in smart televisions highlights a growing trend as companies seek to enhance viewer engagement and offer more personalized experiences. As the demand for AI-driven functionalities increases, partnerships like that of Samsung and Perplexity AI are likely to shape the future of home entertainment technology.
