A serious collision involving a DUI driver resulted in multiple injuries and a vehicle engulfed in flames on the northbound Interstate 15 on-ramp to eastbound State Route 78 in Escondido, California, on Saturday night. The incident occurred at approximately 6:26 PM, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash involved an SUV traveling at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour when it veered across the roadway. The SUV struck a Jeep, causing it to roll over and catch fire. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with flames quickly consuming the vehicle.
A good Samaritan intervened, removing two occupants from the Jeep and transporting them to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the SUV, along with a child passenger, was also taken to a medical facility for treatment of minor injuries. A police officer accompanied the driver for further evaluation.
After receiving medical attention, the driver of the SUV was arrested on charges of felony DUI and subsequently booked into the Vista Detention Facility. The CHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, emphasizing the dangers of reckless driving and the severe consequences that can arise.
