Trump Announces Major IVF Cost Reductions, Credits Katie Britt

In a significant shift for fertility treatment, President Donald Trump announced on October 16, 2025, that the cost of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) medications will be substantially reduced in the United States. This development follows a ruling by the Alabama Supreme Court in 2024 that temporarily halted IVF services across the state. During a press conference held in the Oval Office, Trump credited Katie Britt, a Republican Senator from Alabama, for bringing the issue to his attention.

Trump stated that this initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden faced by couples struggling with infertility. The president emphasized that the changes will not only lower the costs of IVF treatments but also expand insurance coverage for fertility care. “We’re here today to announce a historic victory for American women, mothers and families,” he said. Trump described the anticipated changes as a means to drastically reduce the prices associated with IVF and common fertility drugs, which can reach up to $25,000 per round in the U.S.

The announcement included a partnership with EMD Serono, a leading manufacturer of fertility medications. This collaboration is expected to lower the prices of these essential drugs. Trump noted that the high costs associated with IVF have deterred many employers from providing insurance coverage for such treatments, creating a significant barrier for couples seeking to start families.

“Alongside President Trump, I’ve been proud to lead the charge in the Senate to help parents start and grow their families,” Britt stated on social media, expressing her delight at the progress made. She referred to the announcement as an “incredible milestone” for families facing infertility challenges.

Trump also highlighted the importance of providing comprehensive insurance coverage for fertility care. He pointed out that this coverage could help identify and address issues early on, potentially leading to healthier pregnancies and children. “By providing coverage at every step of the way, it will reduce the number of people who ultimately need to resort to IVF,” he explained.

The ruling by the Alabama Supreme Court arose from lawsuits filed by three couples whose frozen embryos were accidentally destroyed at a local clinic. This incident underscored the need for clearer regulations and better support for those undergoing fertility treatments.

Trump concluded his remarks by thanking Britt and other key figures involved in the initiative, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the Secretary of Health and Human Services, and Dr. Mehmet Oz, the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. He remarked, “There’s no deeper happiness and joy of raising children. And now millions of Americans struggling with infertility will have a new chance to share the greatest experience of them all.”

The proposed changes are anticipated to significantly impact many families across the nation, reducing financial barriers and enhancing access to essential reproductive health services.
