Pickerington High Schools Shine in 2025-26 CAPA Marquee Awards

Pickerington High Schools Central and North have earned a notable position in the prestigious 2025–26 CAPA Marquee Awards Program, organized by the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA). This recognition comes after a competitive selection process that included numerous applications from various schools. The two Pickerington schools join a cohort of 29 other institutions, all showcasing their exceptional talent in the performing arts.

The CAPA Marquee Awards, supported by the American Electric Power Foundation, aim to highlight high school musical theatre education. The program offers students an invaluable opportunity to hone their skills through professional mentorship. Participants will benefit from master classes led by Broadway touring actors, workshops with industry professionals, and evaluations by experienced adjudicators. As CAPA Director of Education Amy Handra noted, such opportunities are increasingly vital given the nationwide cuts in funding for the arts and education.

Broadening Horizons in Theatre Education

The selection of schools for the 2025–26 season includes several newcomers, such as The Arts and College Preparatory Academy and Central Crossing High School. This diversity reflects CAPA’s commitment to expanding its influence and reach within various educational environments. Each selected school will not only present its productions but will also receive constructive feedback from seasoned professionals, enhancing the learning experience for aspiring theatre artists.

The program’s progression will culminate in the announcement of nominees across various categories on April 16, 2026. The finale, a grand awards ceremony scheduled for May 13, 2026, at the Ohio Theatre, promises to be an exciting event, reminiscent of the Tony Awards. This gala will feature live performances from students, showcasing the talent that each school has to offer within the Marquee Awards framework.

Last year, Pickerington made its mark when Kamryn Dansby won the award for Best Performer in a Leading Role. Her achievement led her to New York City for the Jimmy Awards, where she had the chance to engage with Broadway’s finest. This year’s participation in the CAPA Marquee Awards is expected to raise the profile of Pickerington’s theatre program even further, providing students with essential exposure and experience in the performing arts.

Overall, the recognition of Pickerington High Schools Central and North within the CAPA Marquee Awards Program underscores the importance of supporting arts education in schools. As funding challenges persist, initiatives like CAPA’s play a crucial role in nurturing the next generation of talented performers.
