Thomas Michael Ridpath, a cherished husband, father, and community leader, died peacefully on November 20, 2025, in Williamsburg, Virginia, at the age of 81. His life was a testament to commitment, both to family and to the communities he served throughout his career.
Born on March 28, 1944, in Terre Haute, Indiana, Thomas grew up in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, where he completed his education at Fort Atkinson High School. He furthered his studies at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, followed by a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Kansas University in Lawrence. During his time at university, he was an active member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
After completing his education, Thomas relocated to Washington D.C., where he began his career with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). He later transitioned to a successful role as an agent with State Farm Insurance, where he was known for his integrity and dedication to his clients.
In addition to his professional achievements, Thomas was deeply involved in his community. He dedicated his weekends to serving in the Army National Guard and was an active member of the Burke Rotary and the Methodist Church. His contributions were marked by a spirit of volunteerism, as he generously offered his time and talents to various local initiatives.
Thomas had a passion for a wide range of hobbies. He was an enthusiastic coin collector and enjoyed the camaraderie found in bowling and golf. His love for sports was evident as he coached youth basketball, inspiring young athletes with his encouragement and wisdom. Additionally, he engaged in real estate investing, showcasing his enterprising nature.
Thomas is preceded in death by his parents, Perry Weldon Ridpath and Susan Louise (Taber) Ridpath, as well as his brother, Lt. Col. Robert Ridpath. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sharron Ridpath; loving sons, Patrick (Elizabeth) Ridpath and Christopher (Brandy) Ridpath; and four cherished grandchildren, including three granddaughters and one grandson. His legacy is also honored by his sister-in-law, Beth Ridpath, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is planned for a later date to celebrate Thomas’s remarkable life and the impact he had on those around him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in his memory.
