Laura and Sayat Ozyilmaz, the culinary duo behind the successful restaurant Dalida, are set to unveil their new venture, Maria Isabel, in San Francisco. This coastal Mexican cuisine restaurant will open in February 2026, occupying the former space of Ella’s American Kitchen in the vibrant neighborhood of Presidio Heights.
Maria Isabel aims to celebrate the diverse culinary heritage of Mexico, reflecting Laura’s background. Growing up in Guerrero, she was immersed in the region’s rich flavors, seafood, and tropical ingredients. Her father’s roots from Sinaloa further expanded her culinary exposure, introducing her to traditional dishes such as aguachile, chilorio, and machaca. These personal experiences will play a key role in shaping the restaurant’s menu, which will feature seasonal ingredients sourced from local farmers and purveyors.
A Culinary Bridge Between Cultures
The concept of Maria Isabel is described as a culinary bridge between the Pacific coast of Mexico and California. The restaurant will offer a unique dining experience that highlights not only the rich flavors of Mexico but also the local bounty available in California.
Jerry McGie, the Wine Director, will curate a wine list that focuses on California winemakers, including those with ties to Mexico. The selection will also highlight lesser-known wine regions such as Baja California and Querétaro, showcasing the depth of Mexican influence in the wine industry.
The bar program, led by Consulting Bar Director Evan Williams, will delve into a range of Mexican spirits, moving beyond traditional tequila to include mezcal, sotol, bacanora, and raicilla. This approach aims to celebrate the complexity of Mexican flavors and culture, providing guests with a more comprehensive experience.

The interior of Maria Isabel has been designed by Jenne Wicht of JAK W. The design reflects a warm and inviting atmosphere, divided into two distinct sections inspired by the restaurant’s name. One area represents Laura’s sister, Maria, with bright pink accents, while the other pays homage to her mother, Isabel, featuring earthy tones and natural textures.
