Nintendo’s Zelda Movie Takes Shape with Beatles-Inspired Soundtrack

Filming has officially commenced on Nintendo’s highly anticipated adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, marking the franchise’s first foray into live-action cinema. Directed by seasoned filmmaker Wes Ball, known for his work on the Maze Runner series, the film features two relatively unknown actors in the lead roles of Link and Princess Zelda. Early photographs captured on set in New Zealand reveal a visually stunning environment, raising excitement among fans. Yet, some wonder if the film can truly live up to the legacy of the beloved video game series.

The potential challenge lies not in the adaptation of the game’s intricate lore but rather in the absence of a musical element that many fans yearn for. Speculation arises from a unique creative endeavor by video game music remixer RednasVGM, who has been remixing songs from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time alongside classic hits from The Beatles. Over the past year, RednasVGM has released a variety of experimental edits on platforms such as YouTube and SoundCloud, blending the iconic melodies of The Beatles with the enchanting tunes of the Zelda universe.

Some of RednasVGM’s creations vary from unexpectedly beautiful to surreal and bizarre. For instance, a two-minute cut of “Zora’s Domain” interspersed with warped Beatles lyrics might not appeal to everyone, but it showcases a creative merging of two beloved musical worlds. One particular video, for example, has garnered only 130 views, indicating its niche appeal. Yet, for those looking for a quick auditory escape, these remixes offer an intriguing alternative.

Fans of both franchises have expressed curiosity about how a musical approach could enhance the Zelda movie experience. Interestingly, there was once a conversation regarding a Beatles musical adaptation of The Lord of the Rings in 1968. According to director Peter Jackson, who later produced the documentary The Beatles: Get Back, the band envisioned themselves in iconic roles, with Paul McCartney as Frodo and Ringo Starr as Sam. Despite their enthusiasm, the project fell through when J.R.R. Tolkien declined to grant permission for a pop group to adapt his work.

Jackson reminisced about the missed opportunity, saying, “What would The Beatles have done with a Lord of the Rings soundtrack album? That would have been 14 or 15 Beatles songs that would have been pretty incredible to listen to.”

As anticipation builds for the Zelda film, many hope that some of the magic from RednasVGM’s remixes could find its way into the final product. With the release date yet to be announced, the combination of nostalgia and innovation continues to capture the imagination of fans. The idea of The Beatles’ music accompanying Link’s adventures is one that could transform the cinematic experience into something truly memorable.

As production progresses, fans remain hopeful that the Zelda movie will offer its own unique interpretation, even if it does not feature the soundtrack everyone is dreaming of. For now, they can enjoy the creative experiments being shared online, keeping the spirit of both The Legend of Zelda and The Beatles alive in unexpected ways.
