S.S. Rajamouli, acclaimed director known for his work on “RRR,” has unveiled the teaser for his latest project, “Baahubali: The Epic.” This new film, scheduled for worldwide release on October 31, 2023, reimagines the original “Baahubali” saga, merging the two films, “Baahubali: The Beginning” and “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion,” into a single, fully remastered feature.
Originally released between 2015 and 2018, the “Baahubali” films were produced by Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni for Arka Mediaworks. Together, they were created on a budget of approximately $70 million and collectively grossed around $370 million worldwide. The films, which were presented in Telugu and Tamil along with various dubbed versions, starred prominent Indian actors including Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Ramya Krishnan, Anushka Shetty, and Tamannaah Bhatia. Notably, “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” remains the second highest-grossing Indian film of all time, surpassed only by “Dangal.”
The “Baahubali” narrative follows a lost prince, who, raised in exile, embarks on a journey to uncover the truth about his father’s murder and his mother’s imprisonment. As he learns of his royal heritage, he must confront his rival, Bhallaladeva, portrayed by Daggubati, to reclaim his rightful place as king.
In celebration of the tenth anniversary of the franchise, Rajamouli has re-edited the two films into one cohesive narrative. The remastered version promises enhanced picture and sound quality, along with “a few new surprises,” as per the producers. This reimagining is expected to attract both new audiences and long-time fans of the original series.
Following the success of the “Baahubali” films, five seasons of the animated series “Baahubali: The Lost Legends” were released on Amazon Prime Video, produced by Arka Mediaworks and Graphic India. Rajamouli continued to gain international recognition with his subsequent film “RRR,” which won an Oscar and a Golden Globe, becoming the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of all time.
Currently, Rajamouli is working on an untitled feature film, described as a globe-trotting adventure inspired by the Indiana Jones and James Bond franchises. The film will star Indian superstar Mahesh Babu alongside Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
As anticipation builds for “Baahubali: The Epic,” fans can watch the newly released teaser, which showcases the grandeur and epic storytelling that the franchise is known for. The film is poised to reignite interest in the beloved saga while introducing it to a new generation of viewers.
