BREAKING: Philip Craig Donecker, just 26 years old, has passed away after a brave battle on September 6, 2025, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. Surrounded by family and friends, Philip’s loss is deeply felt across the community, and preparations for his memorial are already underway.
Born on July 9, 1999, in Hays, Kansas, Philip was not only a skilled master installer for Renewal by Anderson but also a cherished member of his community. A proud graduate of Central Plains High School Class of 2018 and an associate degree holder in construction management from North Central Kansas Tech, Philip’s impact on those around him was profound.
Philip grew up in Claflin, where he developed strong ties with his family and friends. He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and was known for his unwavering faith. Passionate about snowboarding, golfing, football, and gardening, he was a beacon of light for many, earning numerous nicknames that reflected the love and respect he garnered.
His family, including parents Jeff and Megan Donecker of Claflin and Michelle Smee and husband Chris of Hill City, are left to mourn his passing. Philip is survived by his sisters, JoAnna, Caitlin, Natalie, and Emily Smee, his girlfriend Isabelle “Izzy” Cannata, and countless friends who considered him a guiding force in their lives. His beloved dog, Sky, also shared in the love he spread.
Philip’s funeral service is set for 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Central Plains Junior-Senior High School in Claflin, with Pastors Kenton Abbott and Daniel Harders presiding. Following the service, interment will occur at Claflin Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on September 10, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and September 11, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Bryant Funeral Home. Family will receive guests from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on September 11, with a special time for sharing memories at 6 p.m..
In lieu of flowers, memorials are being directed to the Philip Donecker Memorial Scholarship Fund or Claflin Fire/EMS, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, located at 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
