In a recent interview, Kiley stated, “Independent contractors, small business owners, small business employees, and retirees not yet eligible for Medicare will be severely affected. I’m not willing to just do nothing.” As millions brace for a potential financial crisis, lawmakers are under pressure to act swiftly.
Before the holiday recess, President Donald Trump was reportedly evaluating a plan to tackle health care costs, though he expressed reluctance regarding the extension of these credits. When asked about garnering support from fellow Republicans, Kiley reported receiving “quite a bit” of backing. The legislative fight continues as House Speaker Mike Johnson has yet to specify when the proposal will be brought to a vote. Kiley anticipates a Senate vote on some form of an extension by December 12, 2023, emphasizing the need for leadership to recognize the urgency of the situation.
Kiley stated, “Hopefully the Speaker will understand this is a priority for the members and a priority for the American people.” As lawmakers navigate this critical issue, the potential for widespread economic consequences hangs in the balance.
