URGENT UPDATE: Taylor Sheridan is set to leave Paramount, signaling a pivotal moment in the television industry. The creator of the hit series Yellowstone and Landman is reportedly finalizing an extensive deal with NBCUniversal that could redefine his future in film and television.
According to Puck News, Sheridan will exit Paramount after fulfilling his current commitments, which will conclude in March 2026. His new partnership with NBCUniversal includes an eight-year film agreement starting in March 2026 and a five-year overall television deal launching in 2028, coinciding with the end of his Paramount contract. This shift comes amid significant changes within Paramount, following the acquisition by David Ellison in August 2025.
Sources indicate that Sheridan’s dissatisfaction with the new leadership at Paramount played a crucial role in his decision to leave. The restructuring has led to the reassignment of many executives he worked closely with. Additionally, new streaming chief Cindy Holland raised concerns over several of his production budgets, creating friction in his relationship with the studio. Tensions escalated when Ellison sought to involve Paramount in a separate film deal Sheridan negotiated with Warner Bros., further straining their collaboration.
In early discussions with multiple studios, including Warner Bros. Discovery, Amazon, Netflix, Apple, and NBCUniversal, Sheridan ultimately chose the latter after meeting with Donna Langley, who has broadened her role to oversee both film and television at NBCU. Langley’s impressive track record with filmmakers like Steven Spielberg and Jordan Peele was reportedly a significant factor in Sheridan’s decision.
Despite David Ellison‘s previous praise for Sheridan, calling him “a singular genius and content creator,” Paramount has not extended his television deal beyond 2028. Following his departure, current Paramount projects, including Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown, and upcoming Yellowstone spinoffs, will remain with the studio.
As this situation unfolds, the implications for Sheridan’s creative direction and the prestige television landscape are monumental. Fans and industry insiders alike will be watching closely as he embarks on this new journey with NBCUniversal.
