UPDATE: Students at Chico State are taking a much-needed break from finals stress with a creative and comforting event hosted by the Cross-Cultural Leadership Center. Just today, on December 9, 2025, students gathered in the Meriam Library to decorate quilt squares and enjoy warm bowls of ramen, providing a supportive environment as finals week intensifies.
Program Coordinator Jojo Carranza emphasized the importance of this gathering, stating, “We’re kind of having a destress day.” With finals looming, the event aimed to offer students a cozy and creative outlet to ease their minds. Carranza explained, “Something nice, warm and cozy to eat would be cool and then a little creative crafting event would help ease the mind and get it off of work.”
Amid the hustle of finals, students like Kesar Mann and Kalpit Sharma engaged in decorating quilt tiles, channeling their stress into art. Each student was provided with various colors and art supplies to personalize their squares, fostering a sense of community and collaboration.
Carranza noted that these events are part of a broader initiative to create a welcoming atmosphere on campus. “What we like to do is bring students together,” she said. “We just like to make sure everyone feels included and provide a home away from home.”
As the pressure of finals mounts, this event not only serves as a retreat but also strengthens bonds among students, promoting cultural connections and a supportive network. Participants are encouraged to share their creations, spreading positivity during this intense academic period.
With finals just around the corner, students are reminded of the importance of balancing study with self-care. This event is a timely reminder that taking a break can enhance focus and productivity.
Stay tuned for more updates as students prepare for finals and continue to support each other through creative outlets.
