Olivier, born on August 16, 1937, in San Francisco, dedicated his life not only to teaching but also to inspiring those around him with his zest for life. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, in sociology and education and began his teaching career at Kensington School in Berkeley. It was here that he met his beloved wife, Kaye Olivier.
In 1968, the family relocated to Santa Cruz, where Phil devoted 29 years to teaching at Bradley School in Corralitos. His passion for education was matched only by his love for family, often spending summer vacations camping across the western United States.
Phil’s adventurous spirit led him through the breathtaking landscapes of America, including two weeks every summer in the Sierra. His connection to nature was profound, and he found renewal in the mountains and national parks.
A talented musician, Phil was known for his rich bass baritone voice and was a dedicated member of the Cabrillo Chorus for over 30 years. His home resonated with music daily, creating an atmosphere filled with joy and laughter.
Phil leaves behind his wife, Kaye, their sons Scot and Jordan, and daughter Robin. He was also a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren. The family is mourning his loss while celebrating a life well-lived.
The Olivier family expresses immense gratitude to Dr. Adam Yarme, Hospice of Santa Cruz County, and caregiver Cameron for their compassionate support during Phil’s final days.
A memorial service is scheduled for January 10, 2026, at 1:00 PM at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Aptos, followed by a reception in the parish hall. The family invites friends and community members to join them in honoring Phil’s legacy.
