UPDATE: The Anaheim Ducks triumphed over the St. Louis Blues with a decisive 4-1 victory Monday night, powered by standout performances from Mason McTavish and Pavel Mintyukov, who each netted first-period goals. This win marks a significant moment for the Ducks as they successfully navigated a challenging game, killing off six Blues power plays.
The action unfolded at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, where McTavish opened the scoring just 6:33 into the first period, securing his sixth goal of the season. Just 20 seconds later, Jordan Kyrou responded for St. Louis, scoring his team-leading eighth goal. However, Mintyukov pushed the Ducks ahead again with a goal at 9:36 remaining in the first period, bringing his season total to two goals.
The Ducks extended their lead when Leo Carlsson scored his 14th goal of the season at 5:58 of the third period, marking his third goal in the last four games. Chris Kreider sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the final moments, bringing the score to 4-1. Ville Husso stood strong in goal for Anaheim, making 22 saves, while Joel Hofer recorded 19 saves in relief of Jordan Binnington, who struggled and was pulled after allowing two goals on just five shots.
The Blues faced additional challenges, playing without key forwards Jimmy Snuggerud, sidelined for at least six weeks due to a left wrist injury requiring surgery, and Alexey Toropchenko, who is week-to-week due to serious burns sustained at home. Coach Jim Montgomery had to adjust his lineup, dressing seven defensemen and 11 forwards after rookie Aleksanteri Kaskimaki could not arrive in time due to travel delays.
Looking ahead, the Ducks will host the Utah team on Wednesday night to kick off a crucial three-game homestand. This victory not only boosts team morale but also positions the Ducks favorably as they continue their season.
