Amy Poehler’s SNL Returns with Tina Fey’s Surprise Cameo

UPDATE: In an explosive episode of “Saturday Night Live” on October 7, 2023, former cast member Amy Poehler returned as a confrontational Pam Bondi, igniting social media with a fierce portrayal of the attorney general. This marks Poehler’s third time hosting the show, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of “SNL,” which premiered on October 11, 1975.

Poehler’s Bondi faced off against Democrats in a sketch reflecting her recent *contentious* hearing, answering a provocative question about President Donald Trump‘s deployment of National Guard troops. In a biting response, Poehler quipped, “Before I don’t answer, I’d like to insult you personally,” setting the tone for a night filled with sharp humor.

Adding to the surprise, fellow alum Tina Fey made a surprise appearance as Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, wielding an assault-style rifle. Fey’s Noem hilariously pitched for new Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recruits, asking potential applicants, “Do you need a job now?” and “Do you take supplements that you bought at a gas station?” The sketch concluded with Fey’s memorable line, “Welcome to ICE!”

During her opening monologue, Poehler reflected on her journey, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to host: “It’s always a dream come true to be here. I remember watching the show in the ’70s… thinking: ‘I want to be an actress someday.’” She humorously added a warning to AI actors: “Beep, boop, beep, boop beep beep… You’ll never be able to write a joke, you stupid robot!”

The episode also featured a cameo from Aubrey Plaza, who starred alongside Poehler in “Parks and Recreation.” Plaza participated in a parody of Netflix’s “The Hunting Wives,” showcasing her comedic talent as she navigated a “straight but lesbian horny Republican murder drama.”

In a heartwarming reunion, Poehler, Fey, and former “Weekend Update” anchor Seth Meyers joined current hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che for a quiz show-style battle that left audiences buzzing.

The night concluded with a tribute to Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton, who passed away at the age of 79, as announced by her daughter earlier that day. Keaton’s legacy was honored with a portrait displayed during the episode.

Next week’s episode will feature Sabrina Carpenter as both host and musical guest, performing alongside Charli XCX. “SNL” continues to air on NBC, a division of NBCUniversal, which is also the parent company of NBC News.

This high-energy episode of “SNL” has sparked conversations across social media platforms, highlighting the show’s enduring relevance and comedic brilliance. Tune in next week for more laughs and surprises!
