Skylum Unveils Powerful Tools in Luminar Neo Fall Update

Skylum has launched a notable fall update for its photo editing software, Luminar Neo, which introduces several powerful new features aimed at enhancing user experience. Set to be available in early November 2023, this update builds on the strengths of the existing platform while integrating innovative tools that may attract new users.

One of the standout features is the photo restoration tool, which allows users to import damaged photographs and apply advanced restoration techniques. In practical tests, the tool has shown remarkable capabilities, significantly improving the quality of old images. For instance, a user was able to restore a faded photo from their past, removing tears and enhancing colors effectively. The restoration process is streamlined, enabling quick edits that can transform aging images into vibrant representations.

Another key addition is the Light Depth control feature, which replaces the previous Relight tool. This new functionality empowers users to manipulate light direction in a three-dimensional space, enhancing foreground and background illumination along with color temperature adjustments. A user tested this feature on an image of a cactus in Arizona, achieving a striking improvement in lighting that maintained the natural appearance of the photograph. This tool not only elevates the quality of landscape images but also excels in adjusting lighting for portraits.

The update also introduces a mobile editing option, allowing users to start edits on mobile devices and complete them on desktop computers, or vice versa. This flexibility caters to the on-the-go lifestyle of many photographers, ensuring seamless transitions between devices. Additionally, users can create simple websites to showcase their images, although the current format has some limitations, such as the inability to add text descriptions.

Skylum has shifted its pricing model in response to previous user feedback, moving away from subscriptions to a more varied pricing structure. Current Luminar Neo users can access the new Ecosystem features at a 50% discount. The licensing options, branded as perpetual licenses, include software updates for one year, which has led to some confusion regarding the term “perpetual.”

The fall update reinforces Skylum’s commitment to providing photographers with intuitive and effective tools that enhance the editing process. The introduction of advanced features like photo restoration and Light Depth positions Luminar Neo as a competitive option in the market. Users have praised the ease of use and the significant improvements these tools bring to their editing workflows.

As the photography landscape continues to evolve, Skylum demonstrates its innovative approach by equipping users with technology that simplifies complex tasks while maintaining high-quality results. Current users of Luminar Neo are likely to appreciate the enhancements, while potential customers may find compelling reasons to join the growing community of Luminar users.
