Mitsubishi Unveils Elevance Concept SUV with Four Motors

Mitsubishi has unveiled its latest concept vehicle, the Elevange, at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. This innovative quad-motor plug-in hybrid SUV is designed to accommodate six passengers and features a high-voltage battery capable of powering a camping trailer. As a striking example of Mitsubishi’s commitment to electrification, the Elevance showcases the automaker’s ongoing efforts to lead in the plug-in hybrid segment.

The Elevance concept stands out with its capsule-like cabin, suggesting a bold direction for future Mitsubishi models. It combines advanced engineering with a striking design, potentially paving the way for the next-generation Outlander or even a new Pajero. With a history of producing popular plug-in hybrid SUVs, Mitsubishi reinforces its dedication to this powertrain configuration with the Elevance.

Advanced Powertrain and Capabilities

The Elevance features a sophisticated powertrain that includes a pair of in-wheel electric motors at the front and two additional units at the rear. The front motors are specifically engineered to enhance steering stability, while the rear units facilitate Active Yaw Control (AYC), which minimizes wobble and sway, ultimately reducing the risk of motion sickness for passengers.

This setup is an evolution of Mitsubishi’s well-known Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system, which allows for precise torque distribution to each wheel. The vehicle is powered by a “large-capacity” traction battery along with a “high-efficiency” gasoline engine that can operate on carbon-neutral fuels. This hybrid configuration positions the Elevance as a potential extended-range electric vehicle (EREV), although Mitsubishi has not officially confirmed this aspect, referring to it simply as a plug-in hybrid.

Mitsubishi emphasizes that the Elevance can tackle a variety of terrains, from urban environments to rugged landscapes. In keeping with modern automotive trends, the SUV incorporates artificial intelligence to enhance the driving experience. The AI Co-Driver is designed to assist users in discovering new destinations tailored to their preferences.

Interior Design and Features

Inside, the Elevance boasts a spacious cabin with three rows of seating for up to six individuals. Notably, the front seats can be rotated 180 degrees, transforming the interior into a more inviting space for passengers. A large, full-width display dominates the dashboard, complemented by an LCD screen integrated into the steering wheel, showcasing Mitsubishi’s commitment to technology and user-friendly interfaces.

While Mitsubishi has not disclosed specific power output or range details for the Elevance, it is important to note that the concept is not yet slated for mass production. Nevertheless, it could influence the design and features of future Mitsubishi vehicles, potentially including the next iterations of the Outlander or Pajero.

As the automotive landscape continues to evolve, the Mitsubishi Elevance concept highlights the brand’s innovative spirit and dedication to sustainability, positioning it as an exciting prospect for environmentally conscious drivers.
