Apple is preparing to introduce a significantly upgraded version of Siri, incorporating advanced artificial intelligence features, as early as March 2024. Following a lengthy development period and various engineering challenges, the new Siri is set to make its debut alongside the upcoming release of iOS 26.4.
At the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024, Apple revealed three major enhancements for Siri that leverage its new AI framework. Originally scheduled for release with iOS 18.4, the rollout was postponed due to technical difficulties with the underlying infrastructure. Apple opted to rebuild Siri from the ground up using a new large language model (LLM) system, which has delayed its arrival on user devices.
Currently, Apple is exploring the possibility of utilizing Google Gemini to power these new features instead of relying solely on on-device models. If implemented, this approach will employ Private Cloud Compute, ensuring that user data remains secure and inaccessible to Google. According to a report by Filipe Esposito from Macworld, the new Siri functionalities are on track to launch with the next iteration of iOS.
New Generative AI Search Engine on the Horizon
In addition to the Siri enhancements, Apple is also working on a generative AI search engine, which was first mentioned in August 2023. Industry analyst Mark Gurman has indicated that this search engine could launch concurrently with iOS 26.4, potentially as early as March 2024. This could mark a significant step forward for Apple as it aims to enhance its software ecosystem with cutting-edge AI capabilities.
While the precise release date for iOS 26.4 remains uncertain, historical patterns suggest it will likely arrive in March or April. If past trends hold, the first beta version could be available for testing within the next month. This timeline means users may experience the revamped Siri and the new search engine functionalities in the coming weeks.
Apple’s commitment to integrating advanced AI into its products reflects a broader trend in the tech industry, where companies are increasingly focusing on enhancing user experience through intelligent software. As the launch date approaches, many Apple enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the improvements that these innovations will bring to their devices.
