The annual I Like Pie fun run took place in Bend, Oregon, on November 28, 2025, attracting approximately 5,000 participants despite early morning sleet. The event, organized by Cascade Lakes Relay, transitioned from chilly conditions to sunny skies as runners and walkers eagerly lined up at the pie tables, ready to indulge in festive treats following their efforts.

Scott Douglass, CEO of Cascade Lakes Relay, expressed pride in the community’s spirit. “Central Oregonians are hardy people and most importantly, they’re focused on getting their run in and their pie,” he noted. Participants donned bright I Like Pie hats, which provided a cheerful contrast to the dreary weather. Douglass highlighted the event’s growth, stating, “Overall, this is our biggest year yet,” and confirmed that over 400 pies were provided by Costco, featuring a variety of flavors, including apple, pumpkin, and vegan options.

In addition to the fun run, the organizers reinstated the Perfect Slice challenge. Local bakers showcased their culinary talents, submitting over 20 pies for judging by community leaders, including Mayor Melanie Kebler and Deschutes County commissioners. The winning entry was a strawberry rhubarb pie, celebrated for its taste and presentation.

The event also had a significant charitable impact, raising over $50,000 for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Bend. Michael Baker, the new CEO of the organization, expressed his gratitude for the strong turnout. “I had so many people, at least three dozen people, come up to me today to say welcome to Bend. I’m really happy to be here,” he said. Baker emphasized the importance of the funding, stating that it will help ensure that all youth, regardless of their economic situations, can access the club’s facilities. Last year, the organization awarded over $40,000 in youth scholarships.

Jenny and Nick Foster, newcomers to Bend from Iowa, participated in the fun run after hearing about it through other races. “It was a really fun way to see what Bend is all about,” Jenny Foster remarked, as they enjoyed slices of pumpkin cheesecake pie after the event. The couple planned to join a Friendsgiving gathering later in the day, bringing traditional Midwestern dishes like macaroni and cheese and glazed carrots.

The I Like Pie fun run not only showcased community spirit and festive celebration but also reinforced the value of local engagement and support for youth initiatives.
