As Thanksgiving approaches, numerous organizations across Houston are providing free meals to families in need. These initiatives aim to alleviate food insecurity while fostering community spirit during the holiday season. Various events will take place, offering families the chance to receive turkey meal kits and other holiday essentials.
Key Thanksgiving Meal Giveaways
One of the significant events is the collaboration between the Houston Texans and Kroger. On November 25, 2025, they will distribute 1,000 Thanksgiving meal kits starting at 10:00 a.m. at the Kroger Gate of NRG Stadium (8825 Kirby Dr.). Each meal kit includes a turkey, canned vegetables, boxed sides, cranberry sauce, and desserts, all donated by Houston Texans players. Families are encouraged to enter through Gate 9 to receive a voucher before proceeding to the distribution area. This operation will be drive-thru only and available while supplies last.
The Law Office of Cherika Edwards is hosting its annual turkey giveaway on November 22, 2025, at 6464 Savoy Drive, Suite 465, commencing at 10:00 a.m. The event will provide 100 free turkeys along with canned goods, and attendees will have the chance to win a $50 H-E-B gift card. This giveaway operates on a first-come, first-served basis and continues while supplies last.
Another notable event is the Dub Way Foundation’s Fall Festival and Turkey Giveaway, set for November 22, 2025, from 15:00 to 19:00 at Hunters Glen Park (1340 Independence Blvd.). This community festival will feature free food, drinks, music, games, and vendors, alongside the distribution of turkeys to attendees.
Additional Community Support Initiatives
Peachez is also hosting its annual Community Turkey Giveaway on November 25, 2025, from 09:00 to 12:00, aiming to bless 500 families with turkeys and holiday fixings. Community donations are welcome at Peachez and Daiquiri Land to help fill non-perishable food bags that will accompany each turkey. Local businesses and organizations are invited to participate as sponsors or partners.
Council Member Tiffany D. Thomas is collaborating with both Alief ISD and Houston ISD to distribute 300 turkeys to families facing food insecurity. The distributions will occur on November 21, 2025, at LeRoy Crump Stadium (12321 High Star Dr.) from 10:30 to 16:00, and on November 22, 2025, at Emerson Elementary School (9533 Skyline Dr.) at 15:30. This initiative supplements the 150 turkeys provided by each school district.
The D Wash Family Foundation is also contributing to the holiday spirit with its annual Turkey Drive Giveaway on November 22, 2025. This drive-thru event will take place at Thurgood Marshall High School (1220 Buffalo Run, Missouri City) starting at 09:00 until all food has been distributed. Each vehicle will receive one turkey, and attendees are asked to remain in their cars with trunks open for easy loading.
Ivan’s 5th Annual Not Your Average Turkey & Sides Giveaway will also take place on November 22, 2025, from 10:30 to 13:00 at Puttery (1818 Washington Ave., Suite 180). Families will receive free turkeys, hams, and holiday sides while enjoying various complimentary activities, including mini golf, health screenings, and food options.
Finally, the inaugural Taste Budzzz Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway is set for November 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at 5204 Yale St., Houston, TX 77091. Turkeys will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, with support from community partners.
