Texas Labor Force Hits Record 15.85M, Outpaces National Growth

UPDATE: Texas has just shattered its record for civilian labor force participation, reaching an astonishing 15,850,100 individuals. This milestone comes as the state added 10,800 new jobs last month, marking 60 of the last 62 months of consistent growth.

The latest figures reveal that Texas’ labor force has surged by 237,800 over the past year, significantly contributing to the state’s economy. The state’s annual nonfarm job growth rate stands at 1.4 percent, surpassing the national average by 0.3 percentage points. Current totals show that Texas boasts 14,329,200 nonfarm jobs, despite a slight decrease of 1,900 jobs in June.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has dropped to 4.0 percent, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points over the previous month. “The increase in the civilian labor force and the drop in the unemployment rate highlight continued strength in the Texas economy,” stated Bryan Daniel, Chairman of the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).

In June, the Private Education and Health Services sector saw the largest growth, adding 6,900 jobs. Other sectors including Leisure and Hospitality added 3,000 jobs, while Information contributed 1,000. Additionally, the Construction industry reported a year-over-year growth of 2.4 percent, outperforming the national average by 0.9 percentage points.

“TWC is committed to empowering working Texans to share in that success,” commented Alberto Treviño III, TWC Commissioner Representing Labor. The TWC offers numerous resources for job seekers and employers, including WorkInTexas.com and targeted job fairs.

Among Texas metropolitan areas, the Midland MSA recorded the lowest unemployment rate at 3.0 percent in June, closely followed by Amarillo and San Angelo MSAs at 3.1 percent each. “TWC supports a business-friendly environment, attracting employers to Texas and creating new career paths,” said Joe Esparza, TWC Commissioner Representing Employers.

Employment estimates from TWC are developed in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics. For more employment data, visit TexasLMI.com. The next update on the Texas labor market is scheduled for August 15, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. (CT).

The rapid growth of Texas’ labor force is not just a statistic; it reflects the broader economic resilience of the state and its potential for future opportunities. Share this urgent update to keep others informed about the thriving labor market in Texas!
