URGENT UPDATE: South Portland High School stunned Deering with a thrilling 16-7 victory in a pivotal Class A football matchup on Friday night. The game, held in South Portland, showcased dramatic plays and a fierce rivalry that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
In a turning point late in the third quarter, Darius Johnson scored a crucial go-ahead touchdown, propelling South Portland to victory. Just moments later, Shea Healy connected with Alex Horton for a decisive 19-yard touchdown catch, further solidifying the win.
The first half was dominated by defense, with the only points scored being a safety for South Portland following a bad snap by Deering into the end zone. The Ramblers took the lead in the third quarter with a 43-yard run by David Roth, making the score 7-2. However, the momentum shifted as Johnson capped a lengthy drive with a 5-yard run from the Wildcat formation.
Healy’s pass to Horton for a two-point conversion gave South Portland a stronger foothold. Horton’s later touchdown extended the lead midway through the fourth quarter, securing the team’s record at 3-3 while dropping Deering to 2-4.

In Freeport, the Falcons soared to a 42-0 victory over Maranacook, with Andrew Thomas leading with three rushing touchdowns and a passing score. The Falcons dominated the second quarter, scoring 35 points and capitalizing on turnovers.
Additionally, Winthrop/Montmouth/Hall-Dale secured a 21-6 win against Poland, with Jacob Feith throwing a touchdown and the defense coming up strong in crucial moments.
