UPDATE: A small plane has crashed into a lake behind a home in the Windsor Bay neighborhood of Coral Springs, Florida, just confirmed by officials this morning. Emergency crews rushed to the scene after receiving a 911 call at 10:19 a.m. reporting a plane flying dangerously low.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as the aircraft went down, but as of noon, officials have not located the entire plane or confirmed the number of passengers on board. Mike Moser, deputy chief of Coral Springs Fire Rescue, stated, “Our team has conducted a preliminary dive, but no victims have been found.”
The crash did not impact any homes, a fortunate turn amid the debris cast across the neighborhood. Aerial images reveal a damaged fence and an oil slick in the lake. Residents are asked to contact the Coral Springs Police Department if they find any debris.
Creekside Drive, stretching from Northwest 66th Terrace to Northwest 53rd Drive, is currently closed. Local resident Chris Howes recounted hearing a sound resembling “rapid acceleration” followed by a loud boom, initially mistaking it for a car accident. “When I saw the police and fire crews, I knew it was something more,” she said.
Another resident, Zane Smith, felt a shock wave that rattled his home and thought “a bomb went off.”
The National Weather Service Miami had issued a forecast earlier that morning indicating gusty winds would begin shortly, raising concerns about flying conditions. As the investigation continues, authorities are working diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding this alarming incident.
Residents in the area are urged to stay clear of the crash site as the investigation unfolds. Further updates are expected as officials gather more information. Stay tuned for the latest developments on this breaking story.
