The application, submitted to the Newark and Sherwood District Council in September 2025, aimed to transform the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Bescar Lane into a childcare facility.
The proposal included enhancements such as improved washroom facilities, a new kitchen, car parking spaces, and two outdoor play areas, with intended operating hours from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. Numerous objections were raised, emphasizing potential hazards on the single-track, poorly maintained Bescar Lane, which lacks pavements.
