Mims Kids Stay in School Rally Distributes Supplies Ahead of School Year

UPDATE: The annual Mims Kids Inc. Stay in School Rally took place earlier today, distributing 250 bags of essential school supplies to local students ahead of the new academic year. As cars began lining up at the 41 South Farmer’s Market by 10:00 a.m., organizer M. Jay Hall and his team swiftly began handing out supplies, even before the official start time of noon on Saturday.

The rally, now in its 14th year, saw unprecedented demand as temperatures soared to nearly 100 degrees. Hall noted a significant increase in need this year, stating, “You hate to have them sit and wait.” Many families arrived by foot or in vehicles, eager to receive the support.

Each supply bag contained crucial items such as glue, loose leaf paper, binders, pens, pencils, and folders, designed to give kids a much-needed boost as school begins in Tift County on August 1. In addition to the school supplies, the Department of Public Health provided health information, and hygiene items were also distributed to students.

“We’re blessed to have good community involvement,” Hall expressed, emphasizing the importance of the rally’s support. Volunteers from the Tift County High Class of 1980 and the Lupus Foundation played significant roles in this year’s event, showcasing the power of community collaboration.

As the clock struck 12:30 p.m., all bags had been claimed, with the last few supplies vanishing quickly. Hall shared his excitement for next year, reflecting on the impact of the rally: “For some kids, we’ve been able to help them from kindergarten through high school. It’s just a blessing.”

The Mims Kids Stay in School Rally not only meets immediate educational needs but also reinforces the vital role of community support in fostering student success. As families prepare for the upcoming school year, today’s rally stands as a testament to the collective effort to ensure no child is left behind.

Stay tuned for more updates and community initiatives aimed at supporting local students as they return to school.
