UPDATE: A lone Jets fan walked out of a Brooklyn bar during the team’s disappointing 13-11 loss to the Broncos in London, reflecting the despair of an 0-6 season. With a 9:30 a.m. ET kickoff, local options were scarce, leaving fans disheartened and frustrated.
In New York, it’s typically easy to find a spot to watch NFL games, especially in areas like Jersey City and Hoboken, which boast over 240 bars. However, for Sunday’s game, not a single bar advertised early openings. Fans searching for camaraderie were met with silence, as calls went unanswered and options dwindled.
One Jets fan at the Salty Dog in Bay Side, Brooklyn, was among the few who braved the early hour. By halftime, he was gone, disillusioned after the Jets managed only 32 yards of offense in the first half. “Better off not watching that,” said fellow fan Richard Iocolano, who watched his Broncos from the bar.
The Jets have struggled this season, blowing fourth-quarter leads in three of their six games. Fans are increasingly frustrated as the Jets continue to hold the longest playoff drought in the NFL, now at 15 years. As Frankie Ungaro, a Giants fan and local resident, noted, “I respect the Jet fan who was here earlier… But I don’t blame him for leaving.”
Despite the dismal turnout, one fan, Omar Maldonado, expressed mixed feelings. “I’m a Giants fan, but I’ve got money on the Jets,” he said. He noted the lack of fellow Jets supporters, indicating that even die-hard fans were opting to stay away. “I thought they’d be out,” he added, surprised at the absence of Jets fans.
As the Jets suffered their sixth loss, fans are left to ponder what’s next. Will they find the resolve to support their team, or will this bleak season push them further away? With 11 games remaining, the outlook appears grim.
The Jets are set to face their next opponent after this latest setback. As fans anxiously await news of potential changes, one thing is clear: support for the Jets is dwindling, and they will need all the luck they can muster for the remainder of the season.
Stay tuned for more updates as the Jets continue their search for redemption in a season filled with challenges and disappointment.
