Denny’s Breakfast Combo Costs $9.28; IHOP Charges $18.20

Early this morning, at 7 a.m., a breakfast enthusiast visited a Denny’s in Queens, New York, and enjoyed the Everyday Value Slam for just $9.28, including tax and tip. The meal featured massive pancakes and perfectly cooked eggs, making it a delicious deal.

However, just a day later, at 6:20 a.m., the same diner found themselves at an IHOP in Long Island, where they were shocked to receive a bill totaling $18.20 for an almost identical meal. The pancakes were significantly smaller, and although the sausage links were larger, the hefty price tag left diners feeling they had been overcharged.

The Denny’s experience was a standout, with the diner appreciating the fluffy, bready pancakes topped with whipped butter and perfectly cooked eggs. The $6.99 meal, combined with a 22% tip, made for an incredible value that many might find hard to replicate at home.

In contrast, at IHOP, despite the generous serving of butter, the smaller pancakes and $15.20 base price before tip left the diner questioning the value. The meal’s total was nearly double that of Denny’s, leading to frustration over the significant price difference.

The diner discovered a crucial factor: timing is everything. IHOP’s prices increase before 7 a.m., while their House Faves deal, which offers similar meals for $6 to $7, starts at 7 a.m. This means that had they arrived just 40 minutes later, their IHOP breakfast could have cost half as much.

The findings highlight a critical consumer insight: if you’re looking for a budget-friendly breakfast before 7 a.m., Denny’s is the clear winner. With comparable food quality but drastically different pricing, diners are urged to consider their timing when choosing between these two popular breakfast chains.
