Crestwood Comets Dominate WVC Opener with Sweeping Victories

BREAKING: The Crestwood Comets have made an explosive start to the Wyoming Valley Conference (WVC) season, sweeping both the boys’ and girls’ teams in a tri-meet held in Foster Township on Wednesday. This remarkable performance against Hazleton Area and host MMI highlighted Crestwood’s dominance as they secured two victories each.

In the boys’ events, Crestwood delivered a stunning display, with Rowan Dietrich finishing first in the race by a commanding margin of 16 seconds. The race outcomes were as follows:
– Crestwood 27, Hazleton Area 28
– Crestwood 15, MMI 50

The boys’ top 10 included Dietrich with a time of 18:30, followed closely by Hazleton Area’s Christian Matos Mendez and Gavin Adams at 18:46 and 18:52 respectively.

In the girls’ competition, the Lady Comets showcased their strength by sweeping the top four spots, leading to two victories. Katie Kozich emerged victorious with a time of 19:49, narrowly beating her teammate Adrienne Shebelock, who clocked in at 20:55. The final results were:
– Crestwood 15, MMI 50
– Crestwood 18, Hazleton Area 40

The girls’ top 10 featured impressive finishes from Crestwood athletes, with Mollie Kozich and Riley Ruch also placing in the top four.

In another notable meet, the Shenandoah Valley boys’ team defeated Weatherly and Schuylkill Haven, achieving significant victories with a team effort led by Robert Espinal, who finished first at 17:49. The results were:
– Shenandoah Valley 22, Weatherly 35
– Shenandoah Valley 25, Schuylkill Haven 30

The girls’ race saw Ayla Essler-Kiryaman of Schuylkill Haven take the win, but the overall depth of Shenandoah Valley secured them the team victory.

Meanwhile, Blue Mountain’s boys and girls teams also swept their competitions in a Schuylkill League cluster meet, showcasing standout performances from Francesco Carr and Genevieve Dando. The boys’ results included:
– Blue Mountain 22, Tamaqua 39
– Blue Mountain 17, Mahanoy Area 43

In the girls’ division, Blue Mountain’s depth was evident despite a one-two finish from North Schuylkill’s runners.

In water polo, Hazleton Area faced a narrow defeat against Lower Merion, with a final score of 7-6, despite strong individual performances.

On the golf course, Hazleton Area triumphed over Wyoming Area with a score of 164-197, led by medalist Troy Gaydos with a score of 37.
