The recruitment saga of five-star guard Dylan Mingo continues as he postpones his college decision, yet the Baylor Bears remain the frontrunners in his search for the right program. Initially expected to announce his choice this week, Mingo clarified that his timeline has shifted. “Just got pushed back a bit,” he told ZAGSBLOG, without providing a new announcement date.
Mingo, a standout from Long Island Lutheran, is considering Baylor, Washington, Penn State, and North Carolina. Despite the delay, all current projections on 247Sports favor the Bears, indicating their strong position in the recruitment race. This pause seems to reaffirm the significant connection Mingo has forged with Baylor throughout his recruitment process.
Strong Connections and Impressive Performance
Mingo cited Baylor’s impressive track record with elite guards as a pivotal factor in his decision-making. He mentioned notable alumni such as Tounde Yessoufou, who is projected to be a first-round pick in the upcoming NBA draft, as well as Jared Butler and Davion Mitchell, both of whom have found success at the professional level. “Honestly, just because of their track record with guards… those are all great guards that went there and succeeded,” Mingo explained to Rivals.
The relationship he has developed with the Baylor coaching staff also plays a significant role. Mingo appreciates their shared values, stating, “They’re strong believers in Christ, which I am as well. And they’re just always so positive and just great people to other people.”
Baylor’s ongoing connection to the NBA is further exemplified by Mingo’s recent conversation with VJ Edgecombe, a former Baylor player now with the Philadelphia 76ers. Mingo revealed, “He actually called me today. He said, where are you going, bro? I was like, I can’t tell you all that yet.”
On-Court Excellence
Mingo’s performance on the court continues to validate his five-star status. At the NBPA Top 100 Camp, he averaged 24 points, seven assists, and seven rebounds, earning the Camp MVP title. During the Nike EYBL season with the PSA Cardinals, he posted averages of 19.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.3 steals per game, demonstrating his versatility and physical maturity on both ends of the court.
Currently, Baylor holds one commitment for the 2026 class in four-star guard Elijah Williams. Securing Mingo’s commitment would elevate the class significantly, placing Baylor into the national spotlight. With his impressive production and the cultural alignment he has found within the program, Baylor remains well-positioned as Mingo considers his future in college basketball. As the decision process extends, the Bears are confident in their standing.
