Suzanne R. Rubincam, a beloved resident of Palos Verdes Estates, California, passed away on September 28, 2025, in Redondo Beach, California. She was 84 years old. Suzanne was predeceased by her husband, Paul Pierre Rubincam, Jr., with whom she shared over 60 years of marriage. She is survived by her son, Paul Richard (Rich) Rubincam, his wife Denise, her daughter Amy Rubincam Steadman, her husband Will, and three granddaughters: Chloe Rae Rubincam, Summer Elizabeth Steadman, and Mia Christine Steadman.
A Life of Music and Community Engagement
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Suzanne was raised in Evanston, Illinois. She attended Northwestern University, where she first met Paul during a Debutante Ball, an encounter that led to a lifelong partnership. Following her graduation, they moved to California, settling in the Lunada Bay neighborhood, where they lived for 55 years.
Known affectionately by many names, including Sue, Susie, and Ms. Music, Suzanne dedicated her career to teaching music at Rolling Hills Country Day School. Her creativity shone through as she orchestrated elaborate plays, fostering a love of music among countless children. Her passion for the arts was evident not only in her teaching but also in her personal life. Summers were often spent enjoying time with friends at the beach while the cooler months found her immersed in needlepoint and caring for her cherished rose garden.
A Legacy of Love and Joy
Friends and family remember Suzanne as someone who could light up any room with her infectious smile. Her culinary talents, especially her renowned lemon meringue pie, were often a highlight at family gatherings. As a devoted mother to Rich and Amy, and an adoring grandmother known as “Grammy,” she cherished every moment spent with her granddaughters.
Her relationship with Paul was a model of companionship; together they were often the star dancers at any event. Their bond was evident to all who knew them, and many take comfort in believing they are now dancing together once more.
In keeping with Suzanne’s wishes, no funeral service is planned. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to support research for a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
