Mandan Seeks Board Members, Hosts Community Events This October

The Mandan City Commission is actively seeking applicants for 20 positions across ten boards and committees aimed at enhancing city governance and community development. Appointments will commence in 2026 for various groups, including the Airport Authority, Architectural Review Commission, and Planning & Zoning Commission, among others. Interested individuals can find more information on the specific roles and apply through the city’s official website at cityofmandan.com/boards. The deadline for applications is October 31, or until all positions are filled, with a particular encouragement for both business community members and residents to participate.

Public voting is also underway in the city’s Beautification Recognition Program, which aims to honor residential and commercial properties that contribute to Mandan’s aesthetic appeal. Nominations from the Community Beautification Committee include ten properties categorized under seasonal displays, landscape enhancements, and commercial spaces. The public can cast their votes for an overall winner in each category at surveymonkey.com/r/25recognitionprogram until 11:45 p.m. on October 17.

In legal news, Dallas Riskedahl, a 21-year-old Mandan resident, has pleaded not guilty to charges of gross sexual imposition related to an alleged incident involving a woman who lost consciousness after a night of drinking in February. Riskedahl’s trial is scheduled for December 9. Court documents indicate that DNA evidence linked him to the case, while a second suspect, Tristin Kruckenberg, has had the charges against him dismissed.

Additionally, the Morton County Courthouse will transform into a haunted venue on October 31 for the event titled “Morton County’s Most Haunted: The Trial of Elias Voss.” Starting at 5:30 p.m., this immersive experience, organized by the Courthouse Security & Movement Team with the help of community volunteers, will feature eerie courtroom scenes inspired by a fictional trial. Admission is free, with voluntary donations supporting Colter Hanson, a five-year-old battling cancer from New Salem.

These initiatives reflect Mandan’s commitment to community engagement and support for local residents, highlighting both governance opportunities and cultural events that foster a sense of togetherness.
