Six students were awarded scholarships during a recent luncheon hosted by the Olivet Boys & Girls Club on August 13, 2023. Each recipient received a scholarship of $7,500 to support their higher education pursuits. The event took place at the Oakbrook club in Reading, Pennsylvania, celebrating the achievements of these young individuals.
The scholarship recipients represent a mix of recent graduates and upcoming students from local high schools. The following students were honored for their commitment to education:
Noah Gibney, a graduate of Wyomissing High School in 2025, plans to attend Berklee College of Music. Zahavah Oliveras, also from the class of 2025 at Reading High School, is set to enroll at Cedar Crest College.
In addition, Jennasea Rodriguez, a 2023 graduate of Wyomissing High School, is currently attending Reading Area Community College. Jeremiah Santiago, a 2024 graduate from Reading High School, will be heading to Penn State Berks. Kahlil Samuels, another 2025 graduate from Reading High School, plans to study at Virginia Union University, while Nico Sosa, a 2024 graduate, is set to attend Sussex Community College.
The scholarships were funded through generous contributions from community members, including Sue Palmer, Art Haberberger, Tom McMahon, and Bernice Lebo. Their support highlights the importance of community involvement in fostering educational opportunities for local youth.
This event not only recognized the students’ hard work and dedication but also underscored the commitment of the Olivet Boys & Girls Club to promote academic success within the community. As these students embark on their educational journeys, the scholarships will serve as a valuable resource in achieving their academic and career goals.
